WHY A SHORE DIVE HERE IS NOT A COMPROMISE
Shore diving usually means a long surface swim and a mediocre site. Koloa Landing is the exception. It sits in Hanaka’ape Bay, sheltered from surf, wind and chop, and the entry is a former boat ramp, so you walk in and the reef starts a few steps away. There is almost no surface swim.
The bay is large and horseshoe-shaped, which lets the operator run two genuinely distinct dives from one entry point — the reason it works as a two-tank excursion rather than the same reef twice. It is known as a colourful site, heavy on stony corals with an unusual abundance of marine life for somewhere this accessible.
HOW IT RUNS
Equipment is set up close to the water, with chairs and an ice chest of snacks and cold drinks between dives. Every dive includes a detailed site and marine-biology briefing beforehand, and groups are capped at six divers.
