WHO IT IS FOR
Budget-conscious beginners, and solo travellers with no group to book alongside. This is Po’okela’s open group lesson, running six to ten surfers, and at $100 it is the cheapest session they offer. The trade is straightforward: with up to ten people in the water you are corrected in rotation rather than continuously, and the lesson is shaped around the group rather than around you. If your priority is simply getting on a board on Oahu for as little as possible, this is Po’okela’s answer. Equipment and instruction are included, and the meeting point is confirmed at booking.
Consider instead: if there are two or three of you, the semi-private lesson at $175 brings the numbers right down. Four or five, and the private group lesson is $125. If ten people in one lesson sounds like too many, North Shore Ohana cap their open group at six surfers on a 3:1 ratio, for $120 at Chun’s Reef.
