WHO IT IS FOR
Anyone booking for a child of 12 or under, because Waikiki Beach Services require a one-to-one lesson at that age for safety reasons – a group lesson is not offered to them at all. It suits adults equally well if you want undivided attention on the gentler South Shore rather than the North Shore. The lesson is 1.25 hours in total, of which the first 15 minutes are a safety briefing on the sand, and it starts from Waikiki Beach Services at the Royal Hawaiian, 2259 Kalakaua Ave, Honolulu, HI 96815. Lessons run daily at 8:30 a.m. Your instructor is a Waikiki Beachboy, lifeguard and CPR certified and licensed by the State of Hawaii to teach in Waikiki. All equipment including a rash guard is provided. One firm requirement: every participant must be able to swim.

Consider instead: if the surfer is 14 or over and you want a lower price, Hans Hedemann’s Waikiki group lesson is $100 for a full two hours. For advanced coaching rather than an introduction, Ohana Surf Project’s advanced lesson is $120.
