About Luaus in Hawaii
Hawaii luaus are evening feasts with a Polynesian show, held on all four main islands. We sell 16 of them, from $129 for a full dinner luau on Oahu to $300 for an oceanfront resort luau on Maui, and every ticket includes dinner and the show.
A luau runs two to three and a half hours and starts in the late afternoon. The evening follows a set order: a lei greeting, the imu ceremony where a whole pig is lifted from an underground oven, a buffet or plated dinner, then hula, Tahitian dance and a fire-knife finale. Our guide to what happens at a Hawaiian luau walks through it hour by hour.
Luaus on Oahu
Oahu has the most choice and the lowest prices. Ka Moana Luau at Aloha Tower is the best value, from $129. Aloha Kai at Sea Life Park has the Ko’olau Mountains as a backdrop, from $134.99, and Queen’s Waikiki Luau at the International Market Place is the one you can walk to from Waikiki hotels, from $139. Mauka Warriors in Kapolei is $169 with dinner or $83.74 for the show only, and Chief’s Luau includes round-trip transportation, from $228.96. Our Oahu luau guide compares them in detail.
Luaus on Maui
Maui has the deepest lineup and the best settings. Huaka’i Luau on Ka’anapali Beach is our top-ranked luau in Hawaii, from $203.26, and Myths of Maui at the Royal Lahaina Resort is the island’s longest-running show at $208.94. In South Maui, Aloha Wailea includes an open bar from $159.99 and Gilligan’s Island Luau is Kihei’s small, family-friendly option at $168.54. For a plated dinner rather than a buffet, the Feast at Mōkapu at the Andaz Wailea is $299.98 and the Lu’au at Grand Wailea is $300. See the Maui luau guide.
Luaus on Kauai
Kauai has two. Luau Kalamaku at historic Kilohana Plantation is an original theatrical production on Tuesday and Friday evenings, $221.42 with round-trip transport. Drums & Dances of Polynesia at the Royal Sonesta on Kalapaki Bay is the cheaper choice at $180. Our Kauai luau guide sets them side by side.
Luaus on the Big Island
All three Big Island luaus are on the sunny west side. The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Sunset Luau includes an open bar and reserved seating at $179.14. Feast & Fire at the Outrigger Kona Resort has the most dramatic fire show, at $185, and the Mauna Kea Luau on the Kohala Coast has run since 1965, from $234.27. See the Big Island luau guide.
How to choose a luau
- Best show: Huaka’i Luau, Maui.
- Lowest price: Ka Moana on Oahu at $129 with dinner, or Mauka Warriors show-only at $83.74.
- No rental car: Chief’s Luau or Luau Kalamaku, both with transport included, or Queen’s Waikiki Luau within walking distance of Waikiki hotels.
- Open bar: Aloha Wailea on Maui and the Waikoloa Beach Marriott on the Big Island.
- Young children: Gilligan’s Island Luau is small and calm. Under-5s go free at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, and five and under at Aloha Wailea.
- Special occasion: the Grand Wailea or the Feast at Mōkapu, both with plated dinners.
What is included and what to wear
Every luau ticket we sell includes dinner and the show, and most include a welcome drink. Higher seating tiers buy a place closer to the stage and earlier access to the buffet, not a different show. Dress is resort casual: an aloha shirt or sundress, with a light layer, because luaus are outdoors and the wind picks up after sunset.

Luaus FAQ
Full dinner luaus we sell cost $129 to $300 per adult. Show-only tickets start at $83.74 at Mauka Warriors on Oahu, and premium seating at the Grand Wailea on Maui reaches $360. Children’s rates are lower at almost every luau.
In our ranking, Huaka’i Luau on Ka’anapali Beach, Maui, is the best overall for its production and setting, from $203.26. Ka Moana in Honolulu is the best value from $129, and the Lu’au at Grand Wailea is the best luxury option at $300.
Maui, for settings and production quality: six of the luaus we sell are there, including our top-ranked Huaka’i. Oahu has the most choice at the lowest prices, the Big Island has the strongest fire shows, and Kauai’s Luau Kalamaku is the most theatrical.
Most luaus last two to three and a half hours. Check-in usually opens between 4:45pm and 5:30pm and the show ends around 8:00pm. Packages with round-trip transport, such as Luau Kalamaku on Kauai, take about five hours door to door.
Yes. Almost every luau has a child rate, many invite children on stage for a hula lesson, and some let young children in free: under 5 at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott and five and under at Aloha Wailea. Gilligan’s Island Luau in Kihei is the calmest option for small children.
Some do. Chief’s Luau on Oahu and Luau Kalamaku on Kauai include round-trip transport in the ticket. Queen’s Waikiki Luau is within walking distance of most Waikiki hotels. For the others you drive and park at the venue.
Two to four weeks ahead for general seating, and six to eight weeks for VIP tiers, holiday weeks and summer. Luaus run on fixed nights and the front sections sell out first.
Resort casual: an aloha shirt, a sundress, or shorts and sandals are all fine. Bring a light layer, because luaus are held outdoors and it gets breezy after sunset.
