WHO IT IS FOR
People who want waves without a pop-up. Bodyboarding is one of the easiest watersports to get into, which makes this a good choice for anyone who has tried surfing and found standing up the barrier, for younger riders, and for anyone who wants to be riding within minutes rather than at the end of a lesson. Ohana Surf Project treat it as a discipline rather than a consolation prize: instructors teach technique, tricks and methods, and take students from complete beginner through to advanced. Bodyboards, fins and all the equipment are in the price. All you bring is swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes. The meeting point is in Waikiki and is confirmed at booking.
Consider instead: if you do want to stand, Ohana Surf Project’s own surf lessons run from the same Waikiki base, and Hans Hedemann’s two-hour group lesson is $100. For waves with no board skill at all, outrigger canoe surfing is $48 for 30 minutes.
