WHAT IS AVAILABLE
The Hilo side has far fewer rental counters than Kona, which is what makes this one useful: it saves a drive across the island if you are staying east. Eight-foot foam boards are the core of the range, forgiving enough for improvers and stable enough to be worth taking to a mellow break.
Vehicle roof mount systems are rented separately at $10 a day, which is the detail most visitors forget until they are standing in a car park with an eight-foot board and a hire car. Boogie boards and fins are $10 a day, and life jackets are free.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
– Rentals are priced per board, not per person
– The weekly rate works out at about $24 a day against $40 for a single day
– Add a vehicle mount if you are not driving something that swallows an 8ft board
– Life jackets are provided at no charge
– This is a rental, not a lesson — beginners should book a lesson first
WHO IT IS FOR
Surfers who can already stand up and want their own board for a few days on the Hilo coast. If you have never surfed, book a lesson on the Kona side first, where the beginner bays are.
