WHAT THE LESSON INVOLVES
A group lesson with a hard cap of four students per instructor, run straight off Kahalu’u Beach Park. That ratio is the point: most group classes in Hawaii run five or six to one, and the difference shows in how many waves you actually get pushed into.
Kahalu’u Bay is the reason lessons cluster here. It is a reef-sheltered pocket on the Kona coast that keeps a small, slow, rideable wave when the open coastline is either flat or too much for a first-timer, and the water is shallow and warm enough to spend 90 minutes in without getting cold.
HOW IT RUNS
You meet at Kahalu’u Beach Park on Ali’i Drive. Coaching starts on the sand with the fundamentals, then moves into the water where the instructor stays with the group, positioning boards and pushing surfers into waves. Reef-safe sunscreen is provided, which matters at this bay in particular given the reef underneath.
PRICING
$124.00 per person for the 90-minute lesson, including board, rash guard, water shoes and sunscreen. Verified against FareHarbor, September 2026. Confirm current rates at booking.
