WHAT THE SURF LESSON INVOLVES
Our mission is to help you experience that sensation and to reach the next level of performance. Our goal is to enhance your total surfing experience through smart instruction in a personal environment. Our surfing lessons in Waikiki are customized to fit any experience level and learning style. Our lessons for beginners will teach you the basic elements of the sport to get you up and riding —surfing etiquette, water safety, body positioning, board handling and positioning, paddling, and getting up on your feet.

HOW IT RUNS
You meet at Ohana Surf Center, 184 Paoakalani St, Honolulu, HI, 96815. For our advanced students, the instruction takes on a refined direction that matches your riding style — correcting ‘bad habits’, identifying strengths and weaknesses in technique, competitive strategies, and surfing bigger waves. Most importantly, all students will receive instruction that acknowledges the mental, emotional, and spiritual elements that make surfing such a unique and beautiful sport. You’ll learn how to connect with the ocean environment, understand the line up and the actions of surfers around you, and surf to express your personality. Our lessons are customized to your skill level.

WHO IT IS FOR
Surfers who are past the beginner stage and have hit a plateau. This lesson is written for advanced riders rather than first-timers: instead of teaching you to stand up, the instructor works on correcting bad habits, identifying weaknesses in your technique, competitive strategy, and surfing bigger waves. You also work on reading the line-up and the behaviour of the surfers around you, which is the part of surfing no beginner lesson has time for. Ohana Surf Project also make a point of coaching the mental and emotional side of the sport rather than mechanics alone. The session runs two hours from Ohana Surf Center, 184 Paoakalani St, Honolulu, HI 96815, and is customised to your riding style rather than run to a fixed curriculum.

Consider instead: if you have never surfed, do not book this one. Hans Hedemann’s Waikiki group lesson is $100 for two hours and is built for first-timers, and Waikiki Beach Services teach from age 5 at $150 one-to-one.
