WHAT THE SURF LESSON INVOLVES
This is a great way to get to know the local ocean currents, reef typography and surf breaks. The start of the lesson involves multiple surf checks at favorite local surf breaks. Based on the conditions and wave heights we then determine where we will spend the next 2.5 hours surfing we could always check more then one location and surf 1 1/2 hour each location depending on the travel be. One on one instruction will allow you to feel comfortable in an unfamiliar line up.
HOW IT RUNS
The meeting point is on the North Shore and is confirmed at booking. Beginners will be assigned the standard soft top beginner board. Intermediate to advanced surfers are recommended to bring your own equipment to enhance your experience. If you did not rent or bring your own board we can provide recommendations. We work directly with a local surf shop to offer you quiver of boards to ride- (separately rated $ ) but at discounted price..

WHO IT IS FOR
Surfers who want to be guided around the North Shore rather than taught in one fixed spot. The tour opens with surf checks at several local breaks, and where you spend the next 2.5 hours is decided from the conditions and wave heights on the day – sometimes at a single break, sometimes split across two at roughly 90 minutes each. The point is learning the local ocean currents, reef topography and how the breaks actually behave, with one-on-one instruction so you can settle into an unfamiliar line-up. At $350 it is the most expensive surf session on this site. Beginners are given a standard soft-top board; intermediate and advanced surfers are encouraged to bring their own, and North Shore Ohana work with a local surf shop to offer a discounted quiver if you need to rent one.
Consider instead: if you have never surfed, a standard lesson is far better value – Ohana’s own 1:1 “Kapu” lesson is $225 and their open group is $120. If you want a known, consistent beginner spot rather than a moving tour, everything else Ohana run is based at Chun’s Reef.
